Behavior Support Team Professional Development Opportunities

We offer the following trainings throughout the school-year at the Martin Center for all MNPS employees.
  • Writing Effective FBAs & BIPs: Part 1 - Participants will become familiar with the forms and process for writing effective functional behavior assessments and behavior intervention plans, including how to operationally define a behavior, determine its function, then develop, implement, and monitor a functional assessment-based intervention plan. Data collection methods will also be reviewed.
  • Writing Effective FBAs & BIPs: Part 2 - This training includes more in-depth information regarding developing, implementing, and monitoring functional behavior assessments (FBAs) and behavior intervention plans (BIPs). Participants will gain additional skills in writing effective interventions, as well as how to troubleshoot when an intervention isn’t working. Reactive procedures, safety plans, and restraint and isolation procedures will also be reviewed.
  • The Essential 8 of Classroom Management - The “Essential 8” components of class-wide behavior management will be discussed, including an introduction to class-wide positive behavior support systems for use in primary classrooms.
  • Beyond Classroom Management - Research-based, individualized behavioral intervention strategies will be reviewed for students who need additional support beyond a class-wide primary intervention plan. Strategies discussed will include setting up token economies, self-monitoring systems, behavior contracting, and more.

Check SchoolNet for dates and to register!

We are also available to provide this training in-house on PD Days as full-day, half-day, or 1-hour sessions. Talk to your Behavior Support Team member if you and your school is interested!
